FIREHOUSE MURAL STILL HANGS

November 19, 2008: This mural which still hangs in the kitchen at the old quarters of Engine 2 / Ladder 2 was part of the Poughkeepsie Fire Departments long tradition. The painting was done by Bob Baker (ret. Ladder 2) and represents many Firefighters from a long time ago and some who are still on the job.

4 ALARM FIRE - 70 SOUTH HAMILTON ST. - THE RIVER CHURCH

October 30, 2008: A 4 Alarm fire rips through the River Church located on the City's South side this afternoon. The 117 year old Church and Rectory were completely destroyed by the fire but the school portion of the church was saved by Firefighters. It took Firefighters several hours to bring this blaze under control and there was one injury to a Firefighter. For more photos please visit FD Photo Unit

10-75 POUGHKEEPSIE POST OFFICE

October 22, 2008: Around 4 pm, Firefighters were dispatched for a reported fire a the Poughkeepsie Post office. Car 10 arrived on scene and transmitted the 10-75 for a fire in the buildings Bell Tower. The Historic Bell Tower has been under renovations since August. Due to the height of the Tower, Firefighters used the Master Stream from Ladder 1 to knock down the fire and then stretched approximately 12 lengths to reach the fire using the scaffolding the workers were using. The fire was contained to the Bell Tower and only minor water damage was done to the post office.

GARAGE FIRE - 36 COLLEGE AVE

October 21, 2008: Engines 1, 2, 3 and Ladder 1 and 2 were originally dispatched for an Automatic Alarm at the Poughkeepsie High School when City 911 informed Car 10 (shift commander) that they were receiving calls for a garage fire behind 36 College Ave. Car 10 redirected Engine 1 and Ladder 1 to the fire. Car 10 arrived on scene and advised he had smoke showing. While the other units were investigating a pull box, which was found to be done by a student, Engine 1's nozzleman and the two Firefighters from Ladder 1 stretched 6 lengths to reach the garage which was set back from the residence.

ENGINE 2 MUTUAL AID TO ARLINGTON FD

October 19, 2008: Around 6:30pm the Arlington FD was dispatched for a reported house fire at 44 Crestwood Blvd in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Arlington FD arrived and found a 2 story private dwelling with fire on the second floor. Arlington command requested Poughkeepsie Engine 2 for their FAST team. The 4 occupants who were home at the time evacuated themselves prior to the Fire Departments arrival. The fire was placed under control within an hour and there were no reported injuries. Now that Local 596 has launched it's website store, we have begun allowing public users to register to the site. We have launched our new web store. Currently, we are offering a set of pictures from 1902 which include all the apparatus in service in the city at that time. We also have a limited amount of T-shirts available at this time. If you are not able to purchase your size, check back in a few days as a new shipment is due to arrive anytime now. Over the next few months we will be adding more items such as sweatshirts, and gift items. Check back often to see whats new. 10-75 159 WASHINGTON ST

October 6, 2008: Firefighters were dispatched for a reported fire at the Martin Luther King Apartments shortly after 7pm this evening. Prior to arrival, C911 advised that they had received multiple calls and possibly one victim has serious injuries. Car 10 arrived on scene and transmitted the 10-75 for a fire in the bedroom. One line was stretched and operated and the fire was brought under control within an half hour.
