Welcome to the website of the City of Poughkeepsie Professional Firefighters. Members of the International Association of Firefighters, Local 596. The City of Poughkeepsie Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 596 consists of 65 uniform members of the fire department. This includes 52 Firefighters, 5 Captains, and 8 Lieutenants.

The members of IAFF Local 596 operate 3 engines and two trucks at all times. These companies are staffed with a minimun 2 Firefighters on each apparatus, 1 Lieutenant on Engine 2, and 1 Captain as Shift Commander on Car 10. [ More... ]

ENGINE 1 TAKES IN NEW DELIVERY...

May 14, 2008: Early this morning Engine 1 was dispatched for an emergency child birth. Prior to arrival, dispatch updated Engine 1 that EMD instructions for imminent child birth were being given. Engine 1's crew, FF Rugar, FF Parise, and FF Joyce helped the mother deliver her baby safely. A healthy mother and baby were then transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO 10-75 ON THOMPSON STREET

MAY 13, 2008: City Firefighters were called for a reported structure fire at 120 Thopmson St. at around 5:15pm this evening. First due Engine 2 transmitted the 10-75 with smoke showing. Engine 2 quickly contained the fire to the exterior wall. City fire was assisted by the Fairview Fire District with their FAST Team. All units cleared the scene within one hour.

ENGINE 2 AND TOWER LADDER 2 RUN MUTUAL AID TO ARLINGTON

May 13, 2008: Engine 2 and Tower Ladder 2 were special called for a Second Alarm fire on Jones St. in the Arlington Fire District. Both companies assisted first due units on the third floor and the fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes.

FIREFIGHTER FLANAGAN RETIRES

After 20 years of service, Firefighter Rich Flanagan is retiring. Rich joined the ranks of the Poughkeepsie firefighters in April 02, 1988. He will be missed by all. Good Luck Brother.

F.A.S.T PARTY

The City of Poughkeepsie Professional Firefighters are holding a Rock & Roll for a cause party on Sunday May 4th, 2008 at the Chance, 6 Crannel St. Poughkeepsie NY. Doors open at 1pm and a donation of $15 can be paid in advanced or at the door.
